Ciao from Italy, again

Hello again from Italy. This time it’s for my best friends wedding, so I’ll be keeping this one brief.

Boston and Cambridge. Not only do these cities boast an amazing college ecosystem, namely, Harvard, MIT, BU, Babson, Wellesley, and Northeastern - it’s also home to a thriving startup ecosystem. Massachusssets often tops the charts alongside California, for the most venture capital invested per capita invested in the US.

And it’s not just healthtech companies - it’s got a bunch of energy, media, politics and even talent tech, that is all thriving here.

Read about how the last 10 years of Techstars has been going in this TechCrunch article.

Two weeks ago I attended the Western Union Demo Day. Boy was I impressed. The stand out company for me was Trillbit, a startup creating “the Internet of sound”. Basically, as a next step form TouchID and FaceID, Trillbit has created a sound authentication system. This allows your mobile to connect wirelessly with retail POS systems and such. Super intriguing stuff.

The same book you read last year. Yep, you read that correctly. In case you didn’t know, the most successful people in the world all say that you shouldn’t just read a book once and put it away. The best part is reading it again when you’re smarter, at a different stage, or after you’ve gone through different experiences that the book touched on - in turn, unlocking more value from the book for you.

Try it out and let me know how it goes for you.

As there’s only three weeks left till applications close, we’re doing a final push to build awareness. As a subscriber, you probably know some startups that would be a good fit for Techstars. Could you do one of these three things some time next week?

  1. Send out a tweet about apps closing with the click of a button.

  2. Introduce me by email:

  3. Refer a startup directly using this simple form

Whatever is easiest for you!

Bloom: I love my team! Amar and Zoe are the best team one could hope for. Look at how they sent me off to my vacay:

Thorn: Why hasn’t anyone disrupted airports yet? Seriously. Everything about flying is a mess: parking, dropping off, way finding, checking in, bag tags, walking to gate, waiting at gate, lining up, pre-boarding, boarding, then finally getting seated. It’s all so inefficient and stress inducing.

Bud: There’s nothing like Italian espresso. As soon as I’m back in Denver, I’m buying an espresso machine and learn how to make every type of coffee possible. My favorites right now are: Marrochino, and Latte Macchiato.

What’s your bloom, thorn and bud?
